Spark Your Creativity: 10 Simple Ways to Be Creative Every Day
Sometimes living creatively can feel challenging or even impossible with the pace of life in today’s world. Between kids, work, relationships, and life stresses, it can be really hard to find the time to be creative. Who has time to sit down to paint or start a new project when there are so many responsibilities to think about and items that need to be checked off the to do list? Being creative can sometimes feel frivolous or like a privilege at certain times in our lives.
I’ve been there. At times, my life gets hectic and I get stressed. Not only do I not have time in my schedule for intentional creative time but I also regularly feel blocked or I’m just too exhausted to stretch my brain creatively. During an especially busy season, I started keeping stickers and gel pens next to my chair to decorate my planner. I didn’t create any spectacular works of art, but it gave me an opportunity to create something fun and flex my brain on a regular basis even though I was short on time and energy. It felt good, so I started to think of other ways I could infuse my days with creativity when I was short on time and inspiration.
If creativity feels out of reach for you right now, here’s 10 ideas to get a quick hit on a daily basis. These ideas are for when you don’t have margin in your schedule for more intentional time creating, but also for when you are feeling blocked or don’t have any clue where to start when it comes to being more creative.
10 simple ways to be creative every day
Rearrange a shelf or move furniture around. This is one of my favorites. It can really bring a freshness to your space that inspires you every time you walk by.
Color. There are so many good adult coloring books available. You can also print something out at home. Try new or unexpected color combinations.
Take a different route when driving or on your walk. This seems like such an insignificant thing, but it can really help when in a rut.
Plate your food in a fun or interesting way. You eat multiple times a day. Take a couple of extra minutes to arrange it thoughtfully.
Try something different with your hair or makeup. Find a new eye shadow or pull your hair back in a fun way. There is no shortage of videos online.
Spend 15 minutes writing. Write a poem, short story, or gratitude list. Follow a prompt if needed.
If you must think productively, make a to do list but decorate it with fun pens, stickers, or doodles.
Go on a treasure hunt. Pick flowers and arrange them in a vase or find something that sparks joy at an antique store then add it to your shelf or bedside table.
Put your clothes together in a new combination. Fashion is one of the most fun ways to flex your creativity and you have to get dressed everyday anyway.
These are just a few simple ideas. Most of them are free, piggyback off of things you are already doing, and don’t require any skill. They also have the added benefit of bringing joy to your daily life and inspiring you to live more creatively every day. Let me know what you plan on trying first!
