01. Studio Log
Reflections from my journal
Before the heat sets in and the grind of the day begins, I sit on my porch with a cup of coffee listening to the song of a new morning. A wren ceaselessly sings his song. Crows caw as they fly past. A frog croaks from its hidden place. Cows moo in the distance and crickets chirp. I watch two hummingbirds dive bomb one another, whizzing around like tiny fighter jets chasing after their morning nectar. I feel so small in a world so big, humbled by the vastness of nature. I treasure these quiet moments of gratitude, a balm for my weary soul. The slow and steady voice of creation replenishes, bathed in hope and beauty afresh. Then the door creaks open and little feet tip toe towards me. I close my journal, ready to take on a new day. July 22, 2025

03. In the Field
Where I’ve found inspiration lately
The sweltering heat is keeping me from spending as much time outside, so these days I’ve been finding inspiration in the antique store. I’ve been on the hunt for an eclectic mix of items to use in a bathroom remodel and always keep an eye out for art materials, but I often go just to glean inspiration. Whenever something catches my eye, I investigate to figure out what it is that initially drew me in. I take mental notes on my preferences for shape, colors, texture, or feeling. I find this really helps guide me in my creative time.
04. The Curiosity Cabinet
Some things I’m loving right now
Listening to: The Backstreet Boys. Seeing videos from their Las Vegas residency has brought out the little fangirl in me.
Sipping on: Sprite Zero with sweet cream, fresh strawberries, SF blackberry & raspberry syrups from Sonic. (Or recreated at home.) Yumm.
Reading: The Knight and the Moth by Rachel Gillig. Gothic. Magic. Kick-ass heroine. What more could you want?
Currently obsessed with: Stained glass, my houseplants, and the giant gallery wall we recently hung in our living room.
05. On the Worktable
What I’ve been working on recently
Linocut Stamps & Handmade Botanical Paper
With a house full of kids, summer doesn’t allow the deep focus elaborate mixed media paintings require. Instead I’ve been finding pockets of time to experiment with new ideas and techniques. Lately that’s been carving stamps and making botanical paper.
06. Margin Notes
A quick thought to leave you with
““Instructions for living a life. Pay attention. Be astonished. Tell about it.” ”
